Peer Review Process

Islamic Communication and Civilization Journal (ICCJ) applies a double-blind peer review process. To ensure the integrity of this process, all efforts are made to prevent the identities of authors and reviewers from being disclosed to each other. This responsibility applies to authors, editors, and reviewers, including during manuscript submission, review correspondence, and publication of corrections, which may also be subject to peer review at the discretion of the editors.

Upon submission, each manuscript is initially screened by the editor to assess its suitability in terms of scope, originality, and basic scholarly quality. Manuscripts that pass this initial screening are then forwarded to one or more independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editor or editorial board makes the final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection.

To be considered for publication in ICCJ, a manuscript must demonstrate originality, theoretical or empirical rigor, and a meaningful contribution to scholarly discussions in the field of Islamic communication and civilization, in line with the journal’s focus and scope.

Reviewer selection is a critical component of the publication process. Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, research reputation, relevant experience, and prior performance as reviewers. ICCJ avoids appointing reviewers who consistently submit late, superficial, or unreasoned evaluations. Potential reviewers are contacted in advance to confirm availability and relevance of expertise. Reviewers may decline review requests if the manuscript does not align with their field of competence.

All manuscripts and correspondence are treated as confidential documents. Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality and must not disclose any information related to the manuscript to third parties.

ICCJ is committed to an efficient and timely editorial process. Reviewers are expected to complete their reviews within the agreed timeframe. If delays are anticipated, reviewers are requested to inform the editor promptly so that authors can be kept informed or alternative reviewers may be appointed.

In general, authors will be notified of the initial review results within approximately three (3) months. The overall peer-review and editorial process may take up to six (6) months, and in exceptional cases, up to one (1) year. For further inquiries regarding the peer-review process or editorial policies, authors are encouraged to contact the editorial team.
