Motif Nata Sandal di Kalangan Santri

Abstract

Pesantren as a subculture in Indonesian society has values that are relatively different from the wider community, especially on the relations between santri-kiai in pesantren. One of unique tradition in pesantren is the culture on nata sandal belongings of ustad/ustadzah or kiai/bu nyai which is carried out by santri. To find out about this culture, it is necessary to know what is the motive of santri does it. To answer this, the author uses Schutz’s theory of motive. Meanwhile, the data is collected by observation and interviews with santri. the result of this study shows that the tradition of nata sandal among santri is carried as a common property of the elders and is carried out in order to get good luck in their lives.
