Author Guidelines

Jurnal TARBAWI welcomes original, high-quality scholarly manuscripts that are relevant to the journal’s aims and scope, particularly in the field of Islamic education and related educational studies.

Beginning with the forthcoming issue, all manuscripts must be written entirely in English. Submitted manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal’s aims and scope, ethical standards, formatting requirements, or submission guidelines may be returned to the authors or declined before entering the peer-review process.

1. Language

All manuscripts must be written in academic English.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are grammatically accurate, clear, coherent, and suitable for international scholarly communication.

The editorial team may request language revision when a manuscript requires substantial improvement in English expression before or after peer review.

2. Manuscript Length

Manuscripts should be approximately 6,500–8,500 words, including the main text, tables, figures, references, and appendices where applicable.

3. Title, Abstract, and Keywords

Each manuscript must include:

  • a concise and informative title;
  • an abstract of approximately 150–250 words;
  • 3–5 keywords representing the main concepts of the study.

The abstract should clearly summarize the research background or purpose, methodology, major findings, and conclusion.

4. Manuscript Structure

Research articles should generally consist of:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Method
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements, if applicable
  • Funding Information, if applicable
  • Conflict of Interest Statement, if applicable
  • References

Alternative structures may be accepted when academically justified by the nature or methodology of the study.

5. Manuscript Preparation for Double-Blind Review

Jurnal TARBAWI applies a double-blind peer-review process.

Authors must ensure that the manuscript submitted for review does not contain information that may reveal the identity of the author(s), including:

  • author names;
  • institutional affiliations;
  • email addresses;
  • acknowledgements identifying the authors; and
  • other identifying information.

Complete information about all authors must be entered separately in the OJS submission metadata.

6. Citation and Reference Style

Jurnal TARBAWI uses the American Psychological Association (APA) Style, 7th Edition.

Authors must use the author-date citation system for in-text citations and prepare the reference list in accordance with APA 7th Edition.

Examples:

In-text citation:

(Rahman, 2025)

or

Rahman (2025) found that ...

For two authors:

(Rahman & Hidayat, 2025)

For three or more authors:

(Rahman et al., 2025)

Journal article reference:

Rahman, A., & Hidayat, M. (2025). Islamic education and digital learning transformation. Journal of Islamic Education, 15(2), 125–140. https://doi.org/xx.xxxx/xxxxx

Authors must ensure that:

  • every source cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list;
  • every reference listed is cited in the manuscript;
  • bibliographic information is accurate and complete;
  • DOI is provided whenever available; and
  • references are relevant to the research topic.

Authors are strongly encouraged to prioritize recent, relevant, and primary scholarly sources, particularly peer-reviewed journal articles.

The use of reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero is strongly recommended.

7. Tables, Figures, and Illustrations

Tables and figures must:

  • be numbered consecutively;
  • have clear and informative titles or captions;
  • be referred to in the manuscript;
  • contain readable and accurate information; and
  • identify the source when adapted or reproduced from another work.

Tables and figures should follow relevant APA 7th Edition conventions where applicable.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted third-party materials when required.

8. Originality and Publication Ethics

Submitted manuscripts must represent original scholarly work.

Jurnal TARBAWI does not tolerate:

  • plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
  • fabrication or falsification of data;
  • duplicate or redundant publication;
  • inappropriate authorship;
  • citation manipulation;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest; or
  • other forms of research and publication misconduct.

All submissions are subject to similarity screening and editorial evaluation in accordance with the journal’s Plagiarism Policy and Publication Ethics and Misconduct Policy.

9. Peer Review and Editorial Decision

Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial screening are evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process by at least two independent reviewers with relevant academic expertise.

Possible editorial decisions include:

  • Accept Submission;
  • Revisions Required;
  • Resubmit for Review; or
  • Decline Submission.

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned editor based on reviewer recommendations, scholarly quality, relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, and editorial judgment.

10. Submission Procedure

All manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Jurnal TARBAWI Online Journal System (OJS).

Before submission, authors must:

  • register and log in to the journal website;
  • prepare the manuscript using the official journal template;
  • ensure that the manuscript is written entirely in English;
  • ensure that the manuscript has been anonymized for double-blind review;
  • complete all required author and manuscript metadata;
  • upload the manuscript in the required editable file format; and
  • confirm compliance with the journal’s publication ethics and submission requirements.

11. Article Processing Charge

Jurnal TARBAWI does not charge a manuscript submission fee or a separate peer-review fee.

An Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied only after a manuscript has successfully completed the peer-review process and has been formally accepted for publication.

12. Copyright, Licensing, and Open Access

Authors retain the copyright to their published works.

Articles published in Jurnal TARBAWI are made immediately available under the journal’s Open Access Policy and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Authors are expected to read and comply with the journal’s Copyright and Licensing Policy before submission.

13. Article Template

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official Jurnal TARBAWI Article Template.

The template provides detailed technical instructions concerning:

  • page layout;
  • typography;
  • heading levels;
  • tables and figures;
  • APA 7th Edition citations;
  • reference formatting; and
  • other manuscript preparation requirements.

Manuscripts that substantially fail to comply with the official template may be returned to the authors for technical revision before editorial screening.
