Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism Policy

Jurnal TARBAWI is committed to maintaining academic integrity and does not tolerate plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material.

All manuscripts submitted to the journal must represent original scholarly work and must properly acknowledge all ideas, data, quotations, figures, tables, and other materials derived from external sources.

Similarity Screening

All submitted manuscripts are screened using similarity-detection software, such as Turnitin, as part of the initial editorial evaluation.

Similarity reports are assessed qualitatively and contextually by the editorial team. The similarity percentage is not used as the sole basis for accepting or rejecting a manuscript.

Legitimate similarities may include:

  • properly cited quotations;
  • reference lists;
  • commonly used academic expressions;
  • methodological descriptions;
  • institutional or legal terminology; and
  • other text that is appropriately acknowledged.

Similarity Guidelines

As a general editorial guideline:

  • a similarity index below 20% is generally acceptable, subject to editorial assessment;
  • a similarity index of 20%–40% may require revision, improved paraphrasing, or correction of citation practices; and
  • a similarity index above 40% may indicate substantial textual overlap and may result in rejection following editorial review.

These percentages serve only as screening guidelines and do not constitute automatic acceptance or rejection thresholds.

Editorial Action

If problematic similarity, plagiarism, or inappropriate text reuse is identified, the editorial team may:

  • request revision and improved citation or paraphrasing;
  • require resubmission of an updated similarity report;
  • reject the manuscript;
  • investigate suspected publication misconduct; or
  • take appropriate post-publication action when plagiarism is identified after publication.

Final decisions are based on the similarity report, the nature and extent of the overlap, and scholarly editorial judgment.

Cases of confirmed plagiarism or related publication misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal’s Publication Ethics and Misconduct Policy, Retraction and Correction Policy, and other applicable editorial policies.
